Greensand Filter for Wells
Greensand Filters for Wells and problem well water systems. Many companies, especially in-home water treatment sales companies, offer Greensand as their only line of water filtration for private wells with iron or sulfur. We find that a marginal practice, as there are normally far superior products that don't use poisons and chemicals such as the greensand unit requires. We call it "Pot Perm". It is a HAZMAT material. In other words when we ship it we must put HAZMAT hazardous materials stickers on it. If we do sell one, we warn our customers strongly about the use and handling of this HAZMAT material. Such as covering your shoes; changing clothes before returning to the living area of the home; and showering completely after using the pot perm chemical. It is so fine and light that it gets airborne just opening the canister. Normally you can't see it. And if you ever see purple coloring to the water, STOP using it immediately. Some people use Greensand because they have lower pH values. And most good maintenance free iron filters require a pH of 7.5 or higher. When these people use greensand. It is because the manufacturers of that mineral say that it will work with pH ranges below 6.9. What they do NOT tell you is a pH below 6.9 will eventually cause problems. And the lower you go on the pH scale, the quicker it fails or kills the ability of the mineral to function, often resulting in a clogged or unusable filter.
Greensand and Reverse Osmosis often do not mix.
Also, most people who use this chemical in their water, should have that backed up with reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink. But if their pH is below 6.9. Most reverse osmosis units will make that low pH drop even further. You should not drink low pH water. Especially if it is acidic. It is simply foolish to use Greensand for low pH water or water that has iron bacteria. If you have iron bacteria you must use chlorine to remove it. Chlorine damages the Greensand minerals and the Greensand can't remove chlorine so now you need another filter. If you simply raise the pH and/or chlorinate if you have iron bacteria or other things growing in the filter, you can use a real filter, such as Terminox™ for a far better result.Greensand is ok for most Commercial Applications
We normally only sell Greensand to Commercial or Industrial companies. We don't think it is a good idea to use them at the residential level.It can be hazardous if not handled carefully. If you insist on this technology for your home, we sell it. But we normally would not recommend it.
