The town of Gilbert has two main water sources, surface and ground waters. Surface water is delivered to the town via the Eastern Canal which is part to the Salt River Project (SRP) canal system. The canal can be filled at anytime with water from or any combination of waters from the Salt River (Lakes) System including the Verde River, ground water from wells operated by SRP, and possibly water from the Central Arizona Project (CAP). ground water is supplied to the town from its 12 ground wells located throughout the Town.
